Dirty Couch Brewing welcomes families and their dogs to don costumes and celebrate Oktoberfest from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday at Dirty Couch Brewing (2715 W. Fort St., Seattle). There will be costume contests with prizes, dog races, and more. Doggie race registration is at 2:30 p.m., with the race beginning at 3 p.m.

Costumes are encouraged for all. Oktoberfest and Halloween costumes will be rewarded. A cute dog in any costume will get you a discount — and love and admiration for your furry friend.

Enjoy food from the Birrieria Pepe El Toro food truck. Also, Magnolia Steel Band and Rik & Lisa Seattle Duo will be performing.

Seattle dancers performing to worldwide ‘Thriller’ in Magnolia

The Seattle Thrillers dance group is organizing its 16th annual worldwide simultaneous dance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” on Oct. 29. This event is free to the public and will take place at 3 p.m. at the Magnolia Community Center parking lot (2550 34th Ave. W.).

There will also be a youth performance following the worldwide dance, as well as a costume contest for all.          

Every year on the Saturday before Halloween, Thrill The World hosts a global event inviting Thriller groups in cities around the world to perform at the same time and to raise money for the charity of their choice. The dance time is synchronized for all dancers and their time zones. Thrill The World has been represented in 32 countries on six continents and by more than 23,000 dancers.      

This year, the Seattle Thrillers’ charity is World Central Kitchen ( wck.org ) . The local dance troupe is also in the process of becoming a nonprofit organization.

All Seattle library locations open limited hours Thursday

The Central Library and all branches of The Seattle Public Library will have a delayed opening of 2 p.m. on Thursday to allow for a half-day of staff in-service. All library locations will also close at 6 p.m. that day, which affects 10 branches that would normally be open until 8 p.m. — the Ballard, Beacon Hill, Broadview, Douglass-Truth, Greenwood, Lake City, Northgate, Rainier Beach, Southwest and West Seattle branches.

Library chat and phone service will also only be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.

All book drops will remain open.

All Library parking garages will be closed during those hours, except for the garages at the Central Library and at the Ballard and Lake City branches.

Seattle Weavers' Guild annual show coming up

The Seattle Weavers’ Guild annual show and sale, featuring the Northwest’s largest selection of handcrafted, handwoven items — including apparel, accessories, kitchen linens, table linens, baskets, home decor, tapestries, rugs, gift items, jewelry and more — will take place for three days later this month.

People can talk to the artists, enjoy demonstrations of weaving and spinning and shop for yarns at the event. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 27; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Oct. 28; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 20 at St. Mark’s Cathedral Bloedel Hall (1245 10th Ave. E.). Parking is free. Masks are required.

Seattle/King County Clinic offering free eye exams, eyeglasses for people in need

Seattle/King County Clinic returns to Seattle Center for a seventh year Oct. 20-23 with free eye exams and prescription eyeglasses for those who struggle to access or afford eye care.  

Led by Seattle Center and Seattle Center Foundation, Seattle/King County Clinic brings together healthcare organizations, civic agencies, nonprofits and private businesses for the event. Licensed healthcare professionals and general support volunteers donate their time and expertise with a goal of helping more than 1,000 people in need during the four-day period.

Tickets are limited, and participants are admitted for service on a first come, first served basis.  

Organizers open the facility and begin to distribute free admission tickets beginning at 6 a.m. each day at the Fisher Pavilion at Seattle Center, on the corner of Second Avenue North and Thomas Street/Lenny Wilkens Way. Doors to the clinic open at 7:30 a.m. Patients are then escorted to the service facility and admitted by ticket number to be registered and receive free eye care. If prescription eyeglasses are ordered, they will be distributed in early December.
