Cottesloe's Best Restaurants To Refuel At After A Day At The Beach | Urban List Perth

While we're quite partial to a BYO picnic on the grass overlooking Cottesloe beach, there's plenty of restaurants worth booking into.

Wondering where to get a post-beach feed? Here are our favourite restaurants in Cottesloe.

There's little we love more come summertime than a good view over the water, a cracking cocktail and some tasty nom noms to share between friends. So when we heard some of Australia's top hospo operators were bringing an epic new Latin-inspired bar and restaurant into the iconic Indiana Teahouse, we had to check it out. The food menu at Indigo Oscar is packed with loads of tasty bites inspired by the flavours of Central and Southern America, all of which pair perfectly with the yummy summer cocktails on offer.

Canteen Pizza has quickly become the golden child of the Cottesloe dining scene, no surprises here given its wildly successful neighbour and sister, Il Lido, which is owned by the same people. Here you’ll find caprese salads smothered in fresh pesto, burrata atop Nduja pizza and who could forget the garlickiest, bestest ever porchetta. Not to mention their happy hour(s) from 3pm-6pm that covers $15 margherita pizzas, $10 Aperol spritzes, $10 caprese salad, $5 olives and $10 Negronis. With an encouraging “Because you can’t drink pizza” quote printed across their spritz glasses, we reckon you should book your table at Canteen now because you can certainly do both here.

If a guided meditation spoke to us and said  “the sun is shining, it's warm (but not too warm), there is a gentle ocean breeze and you’re holding a pint. The waitress has just dropped off your Chicken-Parmi-The-Size-Of-Your-Head and you haven’t a worry in the world” we would be one very content, calm and collected office. Lucky for you this exact scenario is just The Ocean Beach Hotel on any given evening throughout summer. Sometimes it is about the creature comforts, and you just need a pub feed, of which OBH do some of the best in the Western Suburbs. They have the classics like parmis, burgers, fish and chips and pizzas, but in case you’re a bit more mature than us, they have pear and blue cheese salad, harissa roasted cauliflower and poke bowls. Or you could keep it real and just get wedges with sour cream and sweet chilli. Totally fine with us.

Sitting as close to the beachfront as you can without eating the sand, is Barchetta. For the last 20 years, this Cottesloe institution has been serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to their beach-going patrons and will continue to do so for what we can only assume will be forever. Just as long as they keep their same chocolate milkshake formula. They open from 6am everyday, closing at 2pm Monday through to Wednesday. After an evening beachfront stroll, you can enjoy dinner and the best sunsets (no WA bias here at all) from Thursday through to Sunday.

Let me introduce you to Ocean Spice. This unassuming hidden gem sits just next to OBH and is open from 4:30pm til 9pm every day of the week, and has gone above and beyond in its role as the local Thai restaurant. Ocean Spice serves some of the most authentic and delicious food, in record time, with generous portions AND for those days when the couch is too comfortable and House Of Dragon is too good, they can deliver for a $5-$10 fee.

For over 10 years, Il Lido has been the local haunt for anyone with excellent taste in food, wine, cocktails and tiramisu. Head down and enjoy the panoramic view of Cottesloe beach and be waited on, fed and watered by their excellent staff while devouring the ever-changing list of Italian goodness.

When Vans was opened on Napoleon Street, initially as a deli, who would’ve thought 25 years later they’d be acting as the go-to breakfast, lunch and dinner joint? Not I, but we all should have. Because everything these guys are dishing out is nothing short of phenomenal. When it comes to dinner here, we can’t go past the Singapore-style mee goreng, double crab fried rice and of course the pan fried gnocchi. This family owned and operated biz has also released an entirely plant based menu, that you wouldn’t even realise is secretly good for you (the best kind of healthy)—so run don’t walk, vegans. Vans is open from 6:30am and carries through to a dinner service everyday.

Tucked away on Station St in the heart of Cottesloe is Lamont’s. For the last 40 years the Lamont family have been making and bottling some of the best wine in The Swan Valley. So naturally, when you combine the genetic skill of wine making and genius in the kitchen, you get one of the best venues in Cottesloe. Wine sales are open from 10am while Kate’s modern Australian tapas style dishes are served from 5pm til late every day, with lunch available on Fridays from 12pm.

There is little that comes above a good Pad Thai in our books, which is what lead us to Wraps. It underwent a little makeover recently and while we didn’t think you could improve their old menu, the new cashew nut and chilli jam stir fry now holds a permanent place in our hearts. Whether you want to sit outside and have your emotional-support-pad-thai after a long day, take it away and share it with your good friend Netflix or eat it at the dinner table from a proper bowl, just make sure you get the black sticky rice with taro for dessert.

When the suburb in question is objectively one of the most beautiful coastal locations in Australia, it is only fitting to include the best fish and chips in town. For as long as we can remember, Amber Jacks on Marine Parade has been providing us with the freshest fish and the crunchiest chips money can buy. The perfect option for a balmy night, take your picnic rug, a jar of pickled onions and a few bevvies down to Cottesloe, accompanied by a parcel of Amber Jacks Hake, $10 of chips and relish in the view and chicken salt (should you choose).
