You'll want to dress in light layers, but may want to throw on a light jacket before you head out the door Friday. The trend of sunshine and toasty temperatures will persist today, but we'll be feeling more like fall from late this weekend through early next week!
You'll want to dress in light layers, but also might want to throw on a light extra layer as you get ready to heat out the door Friday morning. It's also a good idea to get your sunglasses handy and pack some extra water as you get ready to take on the last day of your work week. High pressure centered to our southeast and northwest are continuing to be the dominant influences on our weather pattern Friday, and will leave us with almost identical conditions to what we had on Thursday. Skies are clear across northern California overnight, and will stay sunny through the day on Friday. Temperatures are starting out in the 50's to 60's in the valley and foothills, while our mountain areas are in the 30's to 40's to start your morning. Winds are out of the northeast in the 5 to 10mph range to start the day, with locally stronger gusts in the canyons of the foothills and Sierra early Friday. We'll mostly have north winds to 10mph Friday afternoon. Humidity will dip to below 30 percent this afternoon, and the dry conditions will be our biggest concern in our fire danger today. Fire danger will stay in the moderate range since our winds will not be very strong, but it's important to stay cautious as our fuels are still primed to ignite. High temperatures are projected to end up in the upper 80's to lower 90's in the mid valley, mid to upper 90's in the northern end of the valley, 70's to mid 80's in the foothills and Sierra, and upper 80's to lower 90's in our Northern Mountain zones Friday afternoon. We won't have any clouds to trap in our heat, so temperatures should start to drop nicely as the sun sets this evening. Great news for anyone heading out to the big high school football games or just heading out for a night on the town tonight.
The ridge of high pressure off the coast of the Pacific Northwest on Friday will track inland into the Pacific Northwest on Saturday, and that will open up the door to track closer to the West Coast from the eastern Pacific. That will leave us with sunny skies, but also result in our high temperatures dropping by a few degrees compared to Friday. It will also bring the return of south winds and the Delta Breeze influence to our forecast for your weekend. Projections have valley areas starting out in the 50's and topping out in the mid 80's to mid 90's on Saturday, while foothill areas start out in the 50's to 60's and top out in the 70's to lower 80's. Our mountain areas will start out in the 30's to 40's and end up in the 70's to mid 80's Saturday afternoon. Low pressure will track closer to the coast of southern California on Sunday and usher in a more substantial drop in temperatures for the latter half of your weekend. We'll also have clouds slowly increasing in the afternoon and evening. The latest projections leave valley areas with temperatures in the low to mid 50's in the morning, and high temperatures in the upper 70's to lower 80's Sunday afternoon. Foothill areas will start out in the 50's to lower 60's and top out in the 60's to mid 70's on Sunday, while our mountain zones will start out in the 30's to lower 40's and end up in the 70's to lower 80's in the afternoon.
Our weather pattern will be very similar to Sunday on Monday, but we'll likely have more clouds overhead and could end up a degree or two warmer than Sunday. Low temperatures will be in the 50's for the valley, 50's to lower 60's in the foothills, and 30's to lower 40's in our mountain zones Monday. High temperatures will range from the upper 70's to lower 80's in the valley, 60's to mid 70's in the foothills, and 70's to low 80's in our mountain zones Monday afternoon. High pressure will then begin to rebuild into northern California from Tuesday through the middle of next week, and that will drive clearing skies and above average temperatures to return. Valley areas will climb back into the mid 80's to mid 90's for the middle of next week. Longer range models are showing another cooling trend and even a slight chance for some wet weather on the way for next weekend.
