Like the fact that 80% of U.S. adults use vision correction but 22% haven’t had an exam in more than two years.

According to a new stu from MyVision of nearly 1,00 parents and caretakers, adults use of digital devices is negatively affecting their children’s use. 59% of adults say their own screen time has increased since 2020, and this can negatively influence their kids. Of parents, 54% admitted being addicted to screens, and 49% believe their kids are addicted too. 78% believe their child stares at a screen for three hours or longer daily but 65% want that to be less than two hours. Lastly, 29% of parents admit they do not take their kids to the eye doctor regularly, and more than one in 10 believe their kid’s vision has gotten worse since the onset of the pandemic. myvision.org

The Vision Council has released the Q2 2022 Consumer inSights report. The survey of 15,105 US adults includes a summary of an ongoing survey about vision correction, eye exams, eyeglasses, CLs, readers, and plano suns. It found 80% of respondents use a form of vision correction (glasses, Rx suns, reading glasses, and CLs) and 57% use some form of non-Rx eyewear – including plano suns, blue light glasses, readers and non-Rx CLs. 60% report having an eye exam within the past 12 months, but 22% report their last eye exam was more than 2 years ago. The report is available for free to Vision Council members and at a cost to non-members. visioncouncil.com

Bausch + Lomb released its first annual Visionary Report on the value Americans place on their eyesight, as well as ‘blind spots’ in awareness of AMD, the leading cause of blindness for those 65+. Some 81% of US adults surveyed would be willing to give up something else that is important — a million dollars, another one of their senses — if it meant never losing their eyesight. Despite this, only 37% of those 50+ know that AMD is a leading cause of vision loss. 62% are worried about losing eyesight, but only 44% are concerned about AMD. While AMD impacts 30% of the 65+ population, only 56% of those aged 65+ are aware of it. sightmatters.com/visionary-report
