Anne Hathaway had fans of The Devil Wears Prada shaking in their boots when she arrived at Michael Kors’ Spring/Summer 2023 runway show during New York Fashion Week in a very familiar ensemble. The Academy Award-winning actress wore a look that could have been straight out of her character Andy Sachs’ closet from the 2006 hit.
On Wednesday, Hathaway made an appearance on Today and host Savannah Guthrie noted that fans were quick to point out that Hathaway also sat beside fashion editor Anna Wintour, whom The Devil Wears Prada character Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) is based on. When asked if it was on purpose or by design that she chose a familiar look, the actress replied: “It was kind of nuts, wasn’t it? It was by accident.”
Hathaway explained that she was initially supposed to wear something else but “the shoes didn’t fit, this was the other outfit that came.”
She continued, “And then my hairstylist, who’s so lovely and I never worked with before, said, ‘Oh I know what to do’ and he threw my hair up in a ponytail and I looked in the mirror and I thought, ‘Oh that’s funny, I wonder if anyone will notice?'” (Anne, we definitely noticed!)
At the show, Hathaway donned a dark turtleneck top and a mini skirt, under a brown crocodile leather trench. She carried a clutch and teamed her look with black stiletto heels. The look mirrored Andy Sachs’ final ensemble in the film, especially paired with her brunette bangs.
During her promo tour in N.Y.C. Wednesday, the star stepped out in three more noticeable looks that also deserve our undivided attention.
First, the beloved Princess Diaries actress stepped out in an ivory mini dress and a white checkered oversize blazer worn with black stockings, knee-high boots, cat-eye sunglasses and a black leather envelope clutch.
Then, the Les Misérables star appeared in a modern-day dark-wash Canadian tuxedo in a denim double-breasted jacket with matching high-waisted flared jeans. She teamed it with a rainbow embellished crop top for her appearance at the New York Film Festival to promote her upcoming film Armageddon Time.
Hathaway then departed Bravo Studios wearing a sunny yellow off-the-shoulder midi dress with clear PVC pumps featuring a shimmering pointy toe.
Hathaway stars alongside Anthony Hopkins, Succession‘s Jeremy Strong, Jaylin Webb, and Banks Repeta in Armageddon Time, out Oct. 28.
