A crime thriller featuring the acclaimed writer Edgar Allen Poe, the film is loosely adapted from the book of the same name released in 2006.
Crime thrillers are already cool but crime thrillers from the early 1800s is the real deal. Just a bunch of Sherlock Holmes impersonating people holding magnifying glasses, smoking from the pipe, causing general chaos is what makes the genre interesting. Netflix got that memo and is making a film exactly like that titled The Pale Blue Eye. It is a film adapted from a novel of the same name, written by Louis Bayard in 2006. The book was coincidentally nominated for the Edgar Award in the category Best Novel in 2007.
Since the film has such richness especially when it comes to the Period drama genre, it has the potential of becoming something really interesting. Here is everything we know so far about it-

What is the plot of The Pale Blue Eye?
According to Netflix, here is a short synopsis, “At West Point Academy in 1830, the calm of an October evening is shattered by the discovery of a young cadet’s body swinging from a rope just off the parade grounds. An apparent suicide is not unheard of in a harsh regimen like West Point’s, but the next morning, an even greater horror comes to light. Someone has stolen into the room where the body lay and removed the heart.
“At a loss for answers and desperate to avoid any negative publicity, the Academy calls on the services of a local civilian, Augustus Landor, a former police detective who acquired some renown during his years in New York City before retiring to the Hudson Highlands for his health. Now a widower, and restless in his seclusion, Landor agrees to take on the case. As he questions the dead man’s acquaintances, he finds an eager assistant in a moody, intriguing young cadet with a penchant for a drink, two volumes of poetry to his name, and a murky past that changes from telling to telling. The cadet’s name? Edgar Allan Poe.”
Initially, only two cast members were announced, Christian Bale (Augustus Landor) who is set to play a veteran detective investigating the murders that occur in the film. Joining him is Henry Melling set to play the prolific writer Edgar Allan Poe.
However, as time passed, new cast members were added including Gillian Anderson, Lucy Boynton, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Robert Duvall, Toby Jones, Timothy Spall and Charlie Tahan.
