Shades: A Queer Black Cabaret comes to Macrobert Arts Centre tomorrow night at 7:30pm.
The celebration of queer and black experiences will combine mediums, incorporating drag, opera, pole dance and poetry to give a voice to award-winning performers.
Tickets are between £12.50 -£16.50 with student tickets available at just £5 (student card required).
As part of the performance Drag Queen Rhys’ Pieces will amaze with a one-person cabaret troupe. Rhys will also be running a Lipsyncing Workshop on 14th October as part of the event.
Also performing will be Briana Pegado, a poet and movement artist based in Glasgow, who will showcase her “striking yet sensitive” work.
Finally, Kheanna Walker will take you on a journey of artistic and athletic feats with a demonstration of their pole-dancing abilities.
All the artists involved with this project are a part of OMOS – an art and moving image exhibition which shines a light on Black and Black LGBTQ excellence in Scottish performance.
The film will show at Stirling Castle from October 1 – December 7.
Also featured in the project is dancer Divine Tasinda.
In a quote to Brig, Rhys’ Pieces talked about the importance of both events:
“The artists in this cabaret have recently worked on a project paying homage to the hidden history of Black people in performances at the Stirling Castle in the 16th century.
“After celebrating this lineage, now it’s time to focus on our own stories. We will showcase all the shades of our brilliance and creativity in the present day with music, pole dance, drag and spoken word.”
Tickets are still available for Shades: A Queer Black Cabaret via Macrobert’s website
