Dress in light layers, pack some extra water and grab your sunglasses before you head out the door. Sunny to mostly sunny skies and well above average temperatures are ahead through the end of your work week. A cooling trend will finally arrive as we head into your weekend, and more substantial cooling is on the way for next week.
You're going to want to dress in light layers and make sure you have your sunglasses handy before you head out the door on Tuesday. High pressure centered to our east and another ridge to our northwest will continue to dominate our weather pattern today, and that trend will persist into this weekend. The area of low pressure that brought limited unsettled weather to the Sierra Sunday evening is now off the coast of southern California and will have a very minimal impact on our forecast today, but our high temperatures may trend down by about a degree or two for the afternoon compared to Monday. We've had some thin clouds brushing from north to south across northern California overnight, and we may see a few more thin clouds tracking south across our region today. We have clear to mostly clear skies early Tuesday morning, and will be sunny to mostly sunny Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures have dipped into the 50's to 60's in the valley and foothills, and into the 30's to 40's for most of our mountain zones overnight into this morning. Winds are mostly modest and out of the northeast to start the day, but some of our foothill and canyon areas have the potential for northeast gusts up to around 25mph before sunrise. Humidity has not recovered well overnight, and is projected to dip to below 25 percent across the valley this afternoon. The dry conditions and above average temperatures remain a concern for our fire danger, but with winds staying modest our fire danger will end up in the moderate range again on Tuesday. Fuels are still dry and primed to ignite, so you're advised to use caution and not do any activities that could generate sparks around dry brush. That includes mowing your lawn, or parking over dry brush. High temperatures are projected to end up almost as warm as they did on Monday afternoon. Valley areas will mostly range from the upper 80's to mid 90's, while foothill and Sierra locations top out in the mid 70's to mid 80's, and we have 80's in the Northern Mountains Tuesday afternoon. The clear skies and modest winds will allow temperatures to cool down nicely and quickly through this evening.
We'll continue to have sunny skies and above average temperatures across northern California through the end of your work week. Low temperatures will dip into the 50's to lower 60's in the valley and foothills, while our mountain areas continue to dip into the 30's to 40's in the mornings. We'll have winds out of the north to around 10mph each day, and above average high temperatures. in the afternoons. We'll top out in the mid to upper 90's in the northern end of the valley, upper 80's to mid 90's in the mid valley, mid 70's to mid 80's in the foothills and Sierra, and 80's to lower 90's in the Northern Mountains from Wednesday through Friday. High pressure off the coast of the Pacific Northwest will be the main driving factor in our sunshine and heat as it builds into the West Coast late week.
A cooler system will approach the West Coast as we head through your weekend, and that will bring a welcome cooling trend into your weekend forecast. Saturday will still be very warm, but will trend down by several degrees compared to Friday. The latest projections have valley areas starting out in the 50's and topping out in the 80's to mid 90's on Saturday, and then starting out in the low to mid 50's and topping out in the 80 to 88 degree range on Sunday. Foothill areas will start out in the 50's to 60's and top out in the upper 70's to lower 80's on Saturday, and will then end up in the 70's on Sunday under sunny skies. Mountain areas will start out in the 30's to lower 40's and top out in the 70's to mid 80's through this weekend. We'll also have south winds to around 10mph both Saturday and Sunday. Overall, Saturday will still be fairly toasty, but temperatures will trend down nicely for your Sunday. It's going to be a nice weekend for outdoor activities like hunting down your perfect pumpkin!
Our cooling trend is projected to persist into next week, with valley areas topping out in the 70's to mid 80's on Monday. Foothill areas will mostly top out in the 60's to mid 70's, while our mountain zones will range from the 70's to lower 80's. Further cooling will be possible Tuesday before temperatures rebound for the middle of next week.
